Duo Beach CruZr

The Duo Beach CruZr was designed during a group project in my second year of Product Design and Engineering. We received an idea sketch, which we had to elaborate into a concept and prototype within several limitations and requirements. One of the most significant limitations assigned was the bike had to have back steering.
The Duo Beach CruZr is a bike for children between 9 and 12. The idea behind the bike is to work and play together. Both children pedal, and the child on the back steers.
First, we designed a buildable concept of the given idea, which we modeled in SolidWorks. Of this CAD model, we built a prototype of the Duo Beach CruZr. We conducted a user test with the final product and did a contest against the other groups. We learned the back wheel steering made the bike unstable and sensitive to movement out of the test results. We improved the stability and steering performance by slackening out the geometry of the back steering end of the bike.
